‘Timeless’ preview: Who will board the Lifeboat when it takes on extra passengers?

Well, well, well…Mr. Paterson Jospeh has quite the poker face. At WonderCon, I asked him if Connor Mason or Agent Christopher could possibly travel to the past and he replied thus:

Now we know he’s taking a ride on the Lifeboat in “The King of the Delta Blues“! Here is the official description for the episode:

“The King of the Delta Blues” (Sunday, April 22 at 10 p.m. ET/PT)
Rufus (Malcolm Barrett) and Jiya (Claudia Doumit) add a fourth seat to the Lifeboat. For the first time ever, Connor Mason (Paterson Joseph) joins the team as they travel back to the dusty backroads and smoky juke joints of the Depression-era South to rescue the life and legacy of Robert Johnson (guest star Kamahl Naiqui). Known as King of the Delta Blues and Godfather of Rock n’ Roll, legend has it that Johnson bought his musical genius from the Devil for the price of his soul. Meanwhile, Agent Christopher (Sakina Jaffrey) keeps Wyatt (Matt Lanter) in the present to execute a dangerous raid on Rittenhouse headquarters.

Shawn Ryan and Eric Kripke are the creators, writers and executive producers. Tom Smuts (“Bosch,” “Mad Men”) and Arika Lisanne Mittman (“Elementary,” “Tyrant,” “Dexter”) are co-showrunners and executive producers. Don Kurt (“Philip K. Dick’s Electric Dreams,” “Good Girls Revolt,” “Justified”), Greg Beeman (“American Gothic,” “Minority Report,” “Falling Skies”), John Davis (“The Blacklist”), John Fox (“The Blacklist”) and Marney Hochman (“The Chicago Code”) also executive produce.

“Timeless” is a production of Sony Pictures Television, Davis Entertainment, MiddKid Productions and Kripke Enterprises.

Eric Kripke said that this is one of his favorite ‘Timeless’ episodes. He is no stranger to the tale of Robert Johnson. His awesome ‘Supernatural’ episode, “Crossroad Blues,” fed into the legendary rumor and showed how Johnson’s talent came from a deal with a Crossroad Demon. It will be very entertaining to see what the Time Team learns about the Godfather of Rock n’ Roll.

We are super excited to see how Mason does on his first trip. Considering the fact that he created the time machine, it is about time he gets to take a spin. Enjoy some images:

Mason is looking sharp! Flynn and Lucy look like they’re having fun together. Rufus must be happy to have his mentor along for the ride. We can’t help but suspect the gun-toting femme fatal is another Rittenhouse agent. They sure like slipping skilled ladies into the past to do their dirty work. What does Rittenhouse have against Rock n’Roll? If they fail with Johnson, then is Elvis Presley the next one on their hit list? They better not mess with the King!

Things are looking intense in the present day too. Wyatt and Agent Christopher have a very dangerous task at hand. I hope they bring a sufficient amount of back-up. What is Jessica going to do while everyone else is out on their missions?

But wait, there’s more! NBC just released images from “Mrs. Sherlock Holmes.” Mason’s journey must be a success because we see four members of the Time Team heading back to the past again. Flynn, Lucy, Wyatt, and Rufus join forces with a suffragette.

IMDB shares the following synopsis:

In 1919 New York, the Time Team partners with a female crime solver to prove the innocence of a suffragette who’s been framed for murder.

The Smithsonian has a fascinating article about Grace Humiston, the female private investigator who works with the Time Team. Here is an excerpt:

…lawyer-turned-investigator named Grace Humiston, who had gained notoriety the previous year by battling to save the life of a man on Sing Sing’s death row. (She would eventually prove he had been convicted on falsified evidence and secure his release). Before that, she had gone under cover and infiltrated turpentine camps in the South, where she discovered entire families working under slave labor conditions.

At age 46, with black hair coiled in a bun and a tendency to speak sotto voce, Humiston seemed more like a librarian than a crusader for justice.

We love how ‘Timeless’ showcases extraordinary women throughout history. Lucy will surely fangirl over this meeting as she did with the Curies.

What do you think Clockblockers? Do you have any early theories? Who else do you think will travel to the past on the lifeboat? If this a one time trip for Mason? Could Grace be after a Rittenhouse sleeper agent? Share your thoughts below!

‘Timeless’ airs Sundays at 10 p.m. on NBC.
