Alas, Sleepy Heads, the time has come for Jenny Mills and Ichabod Crane to pay a visit to their old stomping grounds, Sleepy Hollow. Washington’s Division aside, it has become clear that Ichabod and Jenny were destined to move to D.C. to meet new Witness, Molly. We have seen what a profound effect Abbie Mills still has on Ichabod as her soul works through Molly to help guide her partner through these troubling times. They will need her strength now more than ever before, because the memory of Abbie lingers in every dark corner and hidden corridor throughout the show’s titular town.
In last Friday’s “Blood from a Stone,” we learned quite a bit about the mysterious and manipulative Malcolm Dreyfuss. He did indeed make a deal with the Devil. Malcolm sold his soul for the success he has achieved. In doing so, he damned his business partner and friend, Ansel, to hell. Demons, including Malcom’s enigmatic bodyguard Jobe, tortured Ansel by burning their names into his flesh. Ansel returns with a vengeance! He learned the incantation for each sigil, turning his pain into power.(If you watch CW’s “Supernatural,” then a lot of these moments must’ve given you deja vu. There are a lot of fun similarities.)
When Ansel attacks, Malcolm reveals his secret plan to Ichabod and Diana. The talismans he has been collecting are pieces of the Philosopher’s Stone. Malcolm plans to weasel his way out of his deal by becoming immortal. If he never dies, his soul can never be claimed by the Devil. Oh you evil, dirty, rotten scoundrel! In contrast, Ansel wants the Philosopher’s Stone so that his life can be restored. Yup, I think we’re all on Team Ansel here…right?!
In a kick-ass showdown, Jenny arrives in the nick of time and works together with Ichabod to defeat Ansel. She recites an incantation that basically stop the magic in his sigils. Crane strikes the final shocking blow when he darts a dagger into Ansel’s chest. You have to admit, Ichabod had a lot of swoon-worthy moments in this episode: adorably “coaching” Molly’s soccer team, carrying Diana, calling Malcolm out on his treachery, the sweet pep talk he gave Diana about being a “superior parent” and striking Ansel down like a badass. Anyone else feeling all hot and bothered? 😉
At episode’s end Jenny and Crane’s new crew solved the mystery behind the artifact Jobe stole. He took a map of illustrating the location of ley lines throughout the U.S. There are a few points of convergence, where magic is most palpable. Each point is where they’ve found all of Malcolm’s talismans so far, meaning they can predict where he’ll go next. Hmmm, where else would there be a hotbed of supernatural and magical activity…SLEEPY HOLLOW!
In Friday’s highly anticipated “Homecoming,” Jenny and Ichabod take the new team back home. This will surely be difficult and deeply emotional journey for them both. Check out the official episode synopsis and images below:

As we find out in this heart-pounding promo (watch HERE), Crane & Co. are up against an ancient Egyptian-looking archer who seems to be safeguarding the talisman. This should make for some interesting twistory!
What do you think, Sleepy Heads? Were you surprised by the revelations in the last episode? What do you hope to see in “Homecoming”? Are you happy to see the team back in Sleepy Hollow? What lingering questions do you still have? I, for one, am still very curious about Jobe!
I tweeted a whole bunch of questions about Jobe and Sleepy Writers assured me that all would be explained in time. But that won’t stop us from theorizing, so let me know what your thoughts are on the following musings:
If Jobe made a deal with Malcolm for his soul, then why would he help find the Philosopher’s Stone? What does Jobe gain from helping Malcolm?
Did he come back to Malcolm to collect his soul and they struck a new deal? If so, what could it possibly be?!
Isn’t it bad for Jobe if Malcolm weasels his way out of the deal? Surely there are consequences in Hell for such behavior. Plus, Jobe is one of the Devil’s minions, then he’d be in trouble too…right?
The Philosopher’s Stone will make Malcolm immortal. But Ansel wanted the Stone to heal and purify him of the damage that was done in Hell. Jobe is a demon, so I assume he’s already immortal. What if he wants the Stone so he can also be purified and separated from his ties to Hell?
Stay tuned for more scoop!
“Sleepy Hollow” airs Friday’s at 9 p.m. on FOX.
